FORT DE BELLEGARDE

Built by Vauban in the 18th century, the fort is a masterpiece of military architecture.
Its purpose was to monitor the two easiest entry points into France, the Perthus and Panissars passes. From its terrace, the view is unique over the Roussillon and Empordà plains.
Between France and Spain, the fort dominates both Catalonias.

Numerous exhibition halls to visit:
– permanent exhibitions on the history of the site and the border, bearing witness in particular to the “retirada”.
– temporary art exhibitions during the season.

Guided tours are offered at fixed times.
