CLOITRE D'ELNE

°°° Annual closure from January 12th to 26th, 2026 °°°

Built on an oppidum, the ancient episcopal city presents a majestic heritage.
The XNUMXth century Romanesque cathedral, visible from the sea or inland, announces the fascinating cloister of gray marble veined with blue.

Its construction began at the heart of the period of flourishing of Romanesque art, continuing throughout the Gothic period. Its capitals evolve from the Romanesque of the Roussillon Workshops of the XNUMXth century, to Gothic art, in a luxuriant flowering of original themes (plants, animals and religious).

This major place, classified as a Historic Monument, was the seat of the bishopric of Perpignan-Elne from the 1602th century until XNUMX.
The cathedral and the cloister form a single unit: the visit must be done by entering through the cloister, and it is not possible to visit only the cathedral.

Guided tours are only available for groups of 10 or more people and require a reservation.
