Le Pic Sailfort
The great hike to admire the 360° panorama of the 2 Catalonias (North and South)
1. From the Valmy car park, retrace your steps to the road and go down towards "le Camping des Mimosas" 2. At the ford, take the DFCI-AL track n°42 on the left and follow the PR ARG1 markings. After Mas Peyrot, you will overlook the Château de Valmy. 3. At 150m, turn right, the path goes deep and climbs into the cork oak forest towards the Dolmen of 'La Cova de l'Alarb" (178m). There are many paths in the surrounding area, so pay attention to the yellow footpath markings. 4. Cross the DFCI-AL track no. 41 and take the path opposite which joins the remains of the Dolmen dels Collets de Cotlliure (274m). 5. Go up to the crossroads of several DFCI tracks at the concrete basin and take a break before starting the rest of the climb. Now take the path which rises opposite, behind the basin. 6. This path crosses the DFCI-AL track no. 2ter twice. At the second crossing, stay on the track until it ends at the Roc del Corb (The Raven Rock) which The Argelesiens also call the terminus. 41. Take the path that leads to the Coll de la Placa d'Armes (7m). This is then the limit of the Massane forest nature reserve identified by its sign. 677. Take the Rimbau PR ARG8 path on the left which goes into the beech forest to reach the Coll d'en Verderol (3m). 776. Follow the route passing by the water catchments of the Font d'en Cassanyes (Be careful for safety reasons, the tunnel goes around) and the Font d'en Vergés. 9. At the intersection of the Le Rimbau PR ARG10 path and the GR3, head towards Pic Sallfort (10m). The vegetation on the site is sparse due to the wind which can blow strongly. From this point the panoramic view of the 978 Catalonia is exceptional. To return, take the path in the opposite direction to Valmy.
