Superb hike on the Banyuls ridges in the footsteps of those who fled France from 1940 to 1945 in search of freedom.

Conquer the ridges of Banyuls-sur-Mer, with their exceptional panoramas, following in the footsteps of World War II exiles and Spanish Republicans fleeing Franco's regime. The Aristide Maillol Museum is located along the route.

Departure from the Banyuls-sur-Mer Tourist Office.

Walk up Avenue du Général de Gaulle towards Puig del Mas, then cross the Baillaury River via the bridge. Continue along Avenue Pierre de Marca until you reach Place Abel Pages on the left.
From the car park, continue towards the dirt track which leads to a path through the vineyards around Mas Guillaume. Continue on an asphalt road and turn left until you reach Col del Bast.
At the pass, take the path which rises on the right and follow the route for 500 meters. The path follows the crests of the massif. Pass at the foot of an electricity pylon and take the stony path which crosses several scree towards the Col de Rumpissar at an altitude of 538 meters.
Turn left and take the path which rises towards the Tour de Querroig at an altitude of 672 meters which offers you an exceptional 360° panorama.

At Col d'en Torn, turn right towards Col de la Martina
At the Col de la Martina, go down the track which crosses the Reg de la Roubine then at the track change. Go straight, go through a ford then another. There, the road becomes asphalt.
Pass in front of the Mas Xatard.

Leave to the right of the museum parking lot on a narrow road. Continue on Route du Col de Banyuls then Avenue du Général de Gaulle. At the end, turn right towards the Tourist Office.

Practical information

Follow the yellow markings. Bring water, snacks, cap or hat, windbreaker, possibly waterproof clothing. Do not stray from marked trails. Respect nature. Bring back the waste. Check the weather before leaving.
