FORT LIBERIA DE VILLEFRANCHE-DE-CONFLENT

Last entry: one hour before closing

Perched sentinel overlooking Villefranche-de-Conflent, Fort Liberia is open for your discovery. Remarkable monument built by Vauban in 1681, fortified under Napoleon III (1850-1856). In an incomparable setting, you will walk the ramparts, look for a few soldiers hidden in the counterscarp galleries or even meet these nasty poisoners hidden in some underground prisons. Other curiosities: historical reconstructions (12 rooms), chapel, bread oven, gunboats.

The Fort is linked to the medieval city of Villefranche-de-Conflent by a staircase of 765 steps.
Its access is possible on foot by a path (30 min walk), by the underground for the bravest or by 4 x 4 vehicle.
