MATERNITE SUISSE D'ELNE

°°° Due to safety work on the building and its surroundings, the Swiss Maternity Hospital in Elne, an emblematic place of solidarity and remembrance, closed its doors in January 2026 for a period of one and a half years. °°°
In order to maintain public interest during the works, an exhibition retracing the history of this memorial site is installed at the Cloister of Elne.

Built in 1900, the castle became a maternity home between 1939 and 1944, welcoming pregnant women interned in several camps. Thanks to the Swiss nurse Elisabeth Eidenbenz, more than 600 children were able to be born in dignified conditions, far from the camps, until the site was closed by the Germans in 1944.

Opening hours: Every day except Monday from 9:30 am – 18:00 pm (last entry at 17:00 pm).

We speak: French, English, Catalan, Spanish
