About
Covid measures: wearing a mask is compulsory, taking your temperature at the reception of the sites. Simultaneous capacity: 20 people.
Built on an oppidum, the former episcopal city presents a majestic heritage. The 1602th century Romanesque cathedral, visible from the sea or inland, heralds the fascinating blue-veined gray marble cloister. Its construction began at the heart of the flourishing period of Romanesque art, to continue throughout the Gothic period. Its capitals evolve from the novel of the Roussillon workshops of the XNUMXth century, to Gothic art, in a luxuriant flowering of original themes (plants, animals and religious). This major place classified as a Historic Monument, was the seat of the bishopric of Perpignan-Elne from the XNUMXth century until XNUMX.
Elne, ecclesiastical capital of Roussillon from 568 to 1602, houses in its oppidum a magnificent Romanesque cathedral from the XNUMXth century as well as a blue-veined white marble cloister built from the XNUMXth to the XNUMXth century.
The cloister invites you to discover two eras, two styles and two sensibilities: the Romanesque and the Gothic.
