The Benedictine abbey of Saint-Génis-des-Fontaines was built in 780 by Sentimir. Destroyed in the 6th century, it was rebuilt over the following decades. The church follows a Latin cross plan with very marked arms. The 13th century renovation consisted of covering the building with vaults and decorating the facade in which a lintel, a major work of Romanesque sculpture from the 2th century, was integrated around the door. The cloister was built at the very end of the Catalan Romanesque age (end of the XNUMXth century). Its specificity is characterized by the polychromy of its marbles: white from Céret, pink from Villefranche-de-Conflent and black from Baixas.
