EGLISE NOTRE DAME DES ANGES

Church currently closed for renovations.
The old church of Sainte Marie in the old town, already partially destroyed during the war of 1642 between France and Spain, was completely razed in 1672 on the orders of Vauban to create the Glacis of the Castle.
The new church was not built until 1684. The exterior gallery was added in 1725. Despite its austere exterior, the church boasts exceptional richness and architecture inside, particularly the altarpiece of the high altar by the Catalan artist Joseph Sunyer, carved in wood and covered with gold leaf. The stones of the bell tower bear witness to the stages of its construction.
