GROUPE SCOLAIRE JOSEPH-NÉO

Built between 1953 and 1959 according to the plans of the architect Sam Banyuls, the Joseph-Néo school group testifies to the urban and demographic development of Elne in the second half of the 20th century.
Faced with a population increase linked to the growth of market gardening, the municipality undertook the construction of a large school complex intended to consolidate the scattered schools in the town. Located on a 12,000 m² site, the complex is distinguished by its size, its large playgrounds, and its functional architecture adapted to the educational needs of the time.
Combining modern construction techniques and traditional local materials, it is a representative example of school architecture from the Trente Glorieuses (Thirty Glorious Years).
