CAVE COOPÉRATIVE D'ELNE

The Elne wine cooperative illustrates the development of collective viticulture in the 20th century in the Roussillon plain.
Created in 1923 and put into service in 1924 under the direction of Jules-Pierre Reverdy, it resulted from the transformation of an older wine cellar.
It is part of the wine cooperative movement which developed strongly in the department after the First World War.
Faced with increasing production volumes, the building underwent several phases of expansion, notably in 1930 and then in 1960-1961 under the direction of architects François and Joseph Izard.
Still in operation, it constitutes a major element of the economic and agricultural history of Elne.
