Massif de la Madeloc
From a military atmosphere to the spirituality of a hermitage through breathtaking landscapes, it is the discovery of one of the most beautiful signal towers in the region that is essential.
From Collioure Castle, the path climbs through the vineyards. After the Notre-Dame-de-Consolation chapel, the route ascends towards the ridges of the Madeloc Tower. From up there, the view is breathtaking, encompassing the Côte Vermeille and the three stunning villages of Collioure, Port-Vendres, and Banyuls.
1. Leave the seafront by going up Avenue Camille Pelletan then turn left onto Rue de la République until the roundabout. Cross the street and go up in front of the church (Rue du Temple). Go under the railway line, continue along Rue de la Galère at the crossroads of Chemin de Consolation and turn left to leave the village.2. Go under the viaduct and continue straight ahead towards the Oratoire Sainte-Thérèse. Take the path on the left, at the small bridge.3. Take the wide paved path that leads to Consolation. Continue on the path before taking the stairs on the left, in the rock, to reach the hermitage. Possibility of eating at the Notre-Dame de Consolation hermitage. Beyond, the path runs alongside a fenced vineyard and continues into the scrubland. The path becomes increasingly steep to reach the RD 86 and the Col de la Serre. From this point, possibility of departure.4. At the Col de la Serre, leave the road and go up the path on the left. When you reach the Mas de la Serra, continue on the path on the left and go up a steep slope towards the Batterie de Taillefer. From this point (Col de la Serre), you can start.5. Go back down towards the Col de Taillefer and continue on the path opposite to reach the Tour de la Madeloc after several bends. Enjoy the exceptional panorama of the Côte Vermeille, the Tour de la Massane and the Plaine du Roussillon.6. Go down a small road to the Batterie des 500 and take the stony path opposite which joins the GR 10 on the right. Do not head towards the Col des Gascons.7. Leave the path on the left and continue right towards the Col de Vallauria to go around the Massif de Madeloc via the Col de Formingo then Vallauria. There are several ruins on the way.8. At the crossroads, take the path on the right for 50 meters, and continue to the right while still keeping the Tour de la Madeloc in sight. Follow this path along the hillside. Do not go as far as the Col de Taillefer. 9. Take the path you took on the way there.
