LAROQUE DES ALBERES

Col de l'Ouillat

A sporty hike, well shaded, which allows you to reach a strategic crossroads in Albères, the Col de l'Ouillat.

From the Laroque-des-Albères Tourist Office, Maison de la Randonnée, head towards the church and the village centre.
Opposite the church gate, take the church street, a dead end, which is followed by the path, bordered on the left by a stream. The path leaves the village.
On the right, the Moulin de la Pave (old mill) then a few meters higher, a pretty shaded fountain, the Fontaine des Oiseaux. The path follows a half-buried pipe. Arrive at a junction. Turn right, small reservoir.

Arrive at a crossroads of trails. Indicative signs. Take the direction DOLMEN – PIC NEULOS – COL DE L’ULLAT. To the left of the path, a small watering canal which must be followed until you reach a strategic crossroads of paths. We can hear the river below.

Take the left path. Notice a blue and white wooden marker. The path climbs through the vegetation. Follow the yellow markings. Intersection.
Continue along the path that climbs to the right, always following the yellow markings. New intersection of paths.

Yellow writing on a stone on the ground. Take the path opposite. Narrow passage between two rocks (Portell Estret), once used by shepherds to count their animals. The path, still marked in yellow, continues due south, slightly uphill. Passage along a ledge with beautiful views of Laroque.

The path crosses a first ravine then the river: Correc de les Teixoneres, It then climbs in bends. Pretty stone wall to the left of the path, which precedes an intersection of paths marked by a “TRAIL” sign.

Continue to the right. We continue along the wall, a little further on the left the sign indicates the presence of an ice well, a few meters above. Continue on the same path. Cross the watercourse.
Keep going straight.
Follow the markings and the Col de l'Ouillat sign.

Trail junction. Take the path on the left which climbs steeply to reach a forest track. Cross and take the path opposite which climbs steeply. Arrive on a new forest track. Cross and continue on the path, which climbs more regularly. Follow the yellow markings. Small ravine to cross. The trail continues to climb under the Laricios pines.

Reina de les Fonts Fountain. Spring below a small paved road. Picnic area.
Follow the road on the right to reach the Col de l'Ullat (in Catalan).
Chalet refuge and restaurant at the Col de l'Ouillat: Superb location, ideal for grilling and relaxing.
