Puits à glace et Casot del Guarda
Discovering a vernacular heritage in the Albères state forest.
From the Tourist Office, go to the Church. Take the small street opposite the Church gate. Then follow the path into the forest where the Pave mill and the “Font dels Ocells” (Birds Fountain) are located. The path follows a half-buried pipe.
At the junction, turn right. Here, small water reservoir, trail crossroads and information signs. Take the direction Dolmen – Pic neoulos – Col de l’Ullat. To the left of the path, follow the small watering canal until you reach a strategic crossroads.
Take the path on the left. The path climbs through the vegetation.
Intersection. Continue the path that climbs to the right, always following the yellow markings.
New trail intersection. Take the path opposite. Narrow passage between two rocks, once used by shepherds to count their animals. The path continues due south, slightly uphill. Cornice passage with beautiful panoramas of Laroque. The path crosses a first ravine then the river: Correc de les Teixoneres, It then climbs in bends. Pretty stone wall to the left of the path, which precedes an intersection of paths marked by a “trail” sign. Continue right.
Be careful, a sign on the left indicates the ice well a few meters above. Retrace your steps and continue left on the path. Cross the watercourse, the “Correc de la Baillanouse” and follow the path which goes to the left.
Trail intersection. Turn left to go to the casot del guarda.
Intersection of tracks. After the concrete ford, take the track which goes down towards Laroque. First due north, the track turns east and changes valley. Cross the ford and continue to descend along the track (do not take the path on the right, Roc Planer, Roc de Migdia). Intersection with the track which leads to Parraguères. Continue to go down the left track.
Leave the track to take a path on the left, the markings indicate Laroque, which descends into the cork grove. The path (forest of cork oaks and holm oaks) is very ravine and stony.
Here, intersection (crossed on the way out). Continue going down to the right. New Intersection. Continue the descent via the left path. Trail junction. Go down towards the village following the route taken on the way out to reach the Tourist Office.
