Loop

Fauna, Flora, Heritage

Bring water, cap or hat and walking shoes. Respect nature and bring back your waste. The portion on the DFCI track is maintained but not marked.

At the car park, go up into the village and take the road to Villelongue-dels-Monts on the left. Take the first street on the right (rue Saint Christophe) then continue on the left.

200m further, take a path on the left along a house and arrive on the right at the level of the botanical path. At the end of this street, take the botanical path. 500m later, “Marti Fort gardens” signs will guide you to the remarkable works. Continue the path that winds through the terraces.
50m later, a view of the village and castle will amaze you. Follow the marked trail to the “Villelongue” rock.
Turn right and go up on the DFCI "AL7" track. Turn right and follow this easy track.
At 100m in the bend you see a CAIRN (small mound of pebbles; tradition has it that each hiker adds his stone to the building).
200m further on, on the right, an alley of pines invites you. Take this passage to discover “le pech Redoun”. This 180° observatory allows the Communal Fire Committee to monitor the territory. Take the DFCI track again and you will find a sign post: it is the botanical path that will take you back to the village.
Please note that the descent is technical. Halfway up the slope, you can see the lime kiln and its ignition pipe.
