Description
Cap Gros is an exceptional site both on land and in the water. On the tip of the cape, the Fort de la Mauresque was built to defend the entrance to the Port of Port-Vendres, and on the sea side there is an incredible fauna and flora. This site allows you to dive between 3 and 20 meters deep and also offers the possibility of snorkeling. Several dives are possible on this fairly large site where the current is generally weak. Sheltered from the sea wind, it is however very exposed to the Tramontane. Visibility is generally good the first 10-12 meters but much more variable beyond that. The first part of the site (between 3 and 15 meters deep) is mainly rocky and very rugged. Very slightly offset from the tip of Cap Gros, a small dry rises from this depth to around 5 meters and concentrates large schools of common sars, pomfrets and oblades. More and more frequently, small schools of Mediterranean barracuda come to greet you. white gorgonians or alcyonnaires as well as many nudibranchs. This area of the dive will be rather reserved for more experienced divers because the visibility is often medium to low with the influence of more or less strong and frequent currents.
