Sorède is solar by nature! The village has a unique history of research and experimentation on the potential of solar energy: 1st solar oven in France, even of the world; its replica on the Mas del Ca site, as well as the Sundial in the heart of the village, a monumental work that combines contemporary art and astronomy.

Sorède, the capital of whips!

ESAT “Les Micocouliers” perpetuates ancestral know-how. Micocouliers woodworking dates back to the 13th century and attracts major brands in the luxury sector, as well as the Republican Guard. Today, people with disabilities continue to work this wood, which is very flexible and malleable. Main manufacturing includes horse riding whips and crops, hiking poles, and various sporting goods.
Come and meet a know-how unique in the world by visiting the whips factory... not to be missed!

The “Mas del Ca”, between leisure and relaxation…

A veritable green lung, here everything is done in complete osmosis with the surrounding nature. Oxygenate your muscles on the Fitness trail and your brain by visiting the Solar oven which is on its path. On the Orientation course (available in the “Carnet de Jeux en Pyrénées Méditerranée” at the price of €2 in our Tourist Offices), young and old will have fun looking for beacons hidden in the vegetation, before relaxing on the picnic area picnic, magnificent view of the plain to the sea included!

The Mas del Ca is also the kingdom of turtles thanks to the zoo The Valley of turtles ! It is devoted to these animals renowned for their longevity. Ranging from giant Galápagos to tiny tortoises, this is the only animal park where you can meet the entire vast family of tortoises! Take advantage of the daily activities to discover their way of life, their habits and their little secrets...
Alongside turtles, meet reptiles, leaping marmosets, meerkats rearing up on their hind legs and many other mammals and birds...

Wide angle on the Catalan Forge

On the road to the Happy Valley, this authentic forge dating from the XNUMXth century was used for a long time to produce iron. It used the natural resources of the Albères to exploit this material: mine, water and charcoal.

Hike or bike, put on your sneakers! 

Sorède is an excellent starting point for exploring the Albères. Admire the landscapes offered by the Mediterranean forest, while discovering the remains of human activities.
For cycling enthusiasts, the recent opening of Eurovélo8 between Sorède and Argelès-sur-Mer makes it possible, along the foothills of the Albères, to reach the beaches of the Mediterranean… in complete safety!

Good to know

Before setting out on a hike, find out about the local weather. Between June and September, it is imperative to consult the fire hazard of the day and the possibilities of circulation in the massif.

During the summer season, access to washing, a small hamlet between Sorède and Argelès-sur-Mer, is highly regulated and swimming in the Massane is prohibited all year round for health reasons.
